Good morning! I woke up today in Oistins, Barbados to the sound of tropical rain on the roof and a rooster’s crow. (I’ll try to get a picture of one of them, later. Poultry are everywhere!) As mentioned last week, I’m here for a Wayward Wormhole writing retreats offered by Cat Rambo’s Academy for Wayward Writers.
Air Travels
My air travels were easy, with just enough layover time in Atlanta to find the gate for my second flight without a problem. No particular issues with customs or luggage, just—there are a lot of people at airports! Go figure. My roommate and I met up at the airport to share a taxi to our lodging. Yesterday afternoon was dedicated getting settled in our little cottage.
Exploration
We figured out the local ride sharing service, PickUp Barbados, and made our way to the supermarket (Massy Store), an interesting mix of British-forward wares and beach town vibe. Running on adrenaline and doing currency conversions in our heads, we rocked! Roomie even managed to plan an evening meal and cook it in our unit.

Let the Learning Begin
This afternoon we meet the workshop participants IRL, having squealed at each other over WhatsApp for the past two days.
I’ll write more later or perhaps tomorrow. Island time, right?

Meanwhile, enjoy yourself with a snowy good time in my latest novel, The Talking Cure.
“The Talking Cure is a marvelous story—an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery infused with a strong sense of the Weird… and a hearty dose of magic on the side. It’s ideal for all fans of the sinister, the surprising, and the strange.”
—Cherie Priest, award-winning author of Boneshaker
